DOT.TUNES version 4 allows you to create a single password protected user account and 2 simultaneous connections to your DOT.TUNES Server.

In many cases this is all you need to serve files throughout your home or from home to the office.

However if you would like to create more user accounts and increase the number of simultaneous connections then you need the SHARE Plug-in.

The SHARE Plug-in allows you to create an unlimited number of user accounts and increases the number of simultaneous connections from 2 to 25. With SHARE, you'll be able to give as many people as you need, access to your DOT.TUNES server, with the ability to support up to 25 people logging in simultaneously.

The LOGS Plug-in allows you to see which files your users have been downloading from your DOT.TUNES server. With LOGS you can now keep track of all activity on your DOT.TUNES server.

Once the LOGS Plug-in is installed a logs folder is created in Preferences and a new log file is created for each user account. For example when a username:Greg downloads a file the date, time, and file name are added to a log file called greg.txt.

The log files are tab delimited and can be imported into Excel or other graphing apps.

The FILE SERVER Plug-in turns your DOT.TUNES into a web server capable of serving virtually any file. DOT.TUNES creates a new "Shared" folder in Preferences, and any file you place in that folder can be downloaded by authorized users.

UPLOAD is also great if you regularly receive submissions from artists, producers, clients and the like, and you need to provide a secure means of sending and receiving content.

When DOT.TUNES is launched it imports data from iTunes, but if you make a change within iTunes once its running, these changes will not be available in DOT.TUNES until you relaunch.

However, with the SYNC Plug-in installed, SYNC will keep your DOT.TUNES database in sync with your iTunes library in the background. Simply launch SYNC and it will automatically synchronize DOT.TUNES with iTunes.

You can also control how much data is imported. All data from all files or just the data from a specific album or artist.

The API (Application Program Interface) Plug-in is for developers. It adds a series of functions that developers can use to make DOT.TUNES perform specific tasks.

There are a number of advanced API features contained in this plug-in including an XML response server where arguments can be passed in the URL requesting DOT.TUNES to return XML data. It also contains an SQL method allowing developers to make direct SQL calls to the DOT.TUNES database with the results returned as XML.

Additionally, the API plug-in contains a URL Alias folder which enables the administrator to create text files containing long URLs, which become aliases so that a short DOT.TUNES web address triggers a longer more complicated URL.

The most powerful of the API features is a template system involving Tags, SQL commands and the power to fully customize the DOT.TUNES interface.
